What do you know about Southern Magnolias?
They are an amazing tree!
The neat thing about the magnolia tree is that it has the characteristics of a deciduous and yet the shape of a conifer. The benefit to such a shape is the roots actually grow downward, instead of outward. This makes the magnolia an excellent tree for small tree lawns and easements where you need to avoid root encroachment on structures and utilities. Magnolias are one of the best choices for small planting areas if you're dreaming of the largest possible canopy in the smallest possible space. They can grow upward of 60 feet!
